Plastic strapping might be the right material for you if you ship delicate packages that might be damaged by the edges of steel strapping, such as vehicle tires. It is also lighter weight than steel, making it easier to manage and reducing the risk of injury for those who use it. Typically a coil of plastic strapping is half or even less than half the weight of a steel strap coil.

For a tight straps with high retained tension on your packages, you’ll need the proper tooling. There are three main types of plastic strapping tools, each designated by how they are powered: pneumatic, manual, and battery-powered. Here’s a little bit of information about all three types to help you decide which one is best for your packaging needs.

Pneumatic

A pneumatic plastic strapping tool can weigh anywhere from 7 to 50 pounds. Different models can manage a variety of tensions from 680, to 1590, to 1900 pounds of tension. They are suitable for PET, PPY, and nylon strapping. Available models can handle different strap widths from 3/8” to 1 ¼” and a strap thickness from 0.025 to 0.050. There are even combination tools that can tension, seal, and cut plastic straps all in one convenient and easy to use machine. This can help save you time and labor costs when the tools are used frequently.

Manual

For simple operation, we offer a manual plastic strapping tool to suit a variety of applications. These are available for PET, PPY, and CORD strapping. A sealer will weigh between four and five pounds and can manage strap widths from 3/8” to ¾” and strap thickness from 0.010 to 0.050. A tensioner will weigh between three and six pounds. A sealless combination tool can weigh seven, nine, or 12 pounds and handle strap widths from 3/8” to 1 ¼”.
