Based on insights from Fromm Packaging, one of the strapping tool manufacturers we partner with, here are the four issues we see most often, along with a few things you can safely check yourself before sending your tool in for repair.
A quick safety note first: outside of basic cleaning, we don't recommend opening up or working inside your strapping tool without repair experience. Doing so can damage the tool further or put you at risk. If the tips below don't solve the problem, that's your cue to send it to our team.
01When the Tool Won't Turn On at All
This usually points to a battery issue — either the battery itself or how it's seated in the tool.
- Confirm the battery is charging fully in its charger.
- Make sure it's seated correctly in the compartment.
- Pop it out and back in to reset the connection.
- Swap in a spare battery if you have one — occasionally a battery is simply bad.
Still nothing? The motor or circuit board may be the culprit, and that's a job for our repair team.
02When the Tensioning Feels Weak
Weak tension is often caused by a dirty or worn tensioning wheel, though it can also come from a faulty microswitch or circuit board.
- Double-check your tension settings.
- Make sure the strap hasn't slipped.
- Use compressed air (never a hard tool or object) to clear debris from the tensioning wheel.
03When the Tool Won't Cut the Strap
This is typically a sign that the cutter or its pressure spring needs attention.
- Inspect and adjust the cutter.
- Give the tool a thorough cleaning.
04When the Tool Won't Weld/Seal the Strap
A failure to weld can trace back to a number of worn or broken parts — grippers, springs, or the motor among them.
- Use compressed air to clear out dust and debris from the mechanism.
